Keep wrist pain in check.

Our tender gentle wrists take a lot of weight these days when we practice on the Yoga mat. It starts from all fours position and carries on through the multiple planks and down dogs and eventually into inversions and arm balances. Them poor wrists need load of TLC from time to time, every class I’d say.

With the amount of weight bearing poses practiced in Yoga asana class, it is important to warm up the wrists before and then practice some simple gentle stretches after to release any tension that may arise. Wrist pain is not as severe or common as low back or knee pain however it can be a huge hindrance in a vinyasa styled practice and rather than a hindrance I should say they are brave and withstand lots of pressure.

Of course the muscles in forearms really help in supporting the wrists, which is why you will hear me say spread your fingers, press fingers pads into the mat and hug the wrists towards each other etc. in downward facing dog to help support the wrists to avoid pain.

I thought I’d make a quick video entailing 5 easy simple movements that you can practice at home to give your wrists some love and attention. Keep up the practice 🙂
