Kapalabhati

Kapalabhati is considered to be so cleansing to the entire system that when practiced regularly, the face shines with good health and radiance. Kapala = skull and bhati = shining.

METHOD

  • Sit in any comfortable pose with straight spine.
  • Relax abdominal muscles and shoulders.
  • Start with one full inhale and exhale.
  • Begin with an inhale followed by a forceful exhale drawing your abdominal muscles inward simultaneously. Your abdomen should rise when you inhale and contract when you exhale. Focus only on the exhalations. You may place one hand on the stomach to feel the contraction and the other hand underneath the nose to feel the exhalation till you are able to understand technique.
  • Continue for 10-12 breaths and then take a break.
  • Perform two more similar sets.

CAUTION

  • Avoid if hyper-acidity or ulcer issues.
  • Practice less forceful exhales if on the lower blood pressure side or if feeling of dizziness arises.
