3 yoga poses to relieve lower back pain

A good number of people come to a Yoga class because it is recommended by a doctor or a friend as a mind-body discipline to practice to help support, stretch and relieve an aching lower back. However many poses in Yoga if not done with proper alignment can increase lower back pain, so it is best to attend a slow paced Hatha yoga class or a foundation class where the focus is proper alignment rather than a fast paced class.

Among a lot of the poses that nourish the spine, supine twists as discussed in the video , twists lying on the back have proved to be very comforting to the back. Not a single person doesn’t enjoy these twists, whether in the morning or evening , whether at the beginning or at the end of the session. It just feels good.

I would recommend holding each side of each poses for at least 3-5 breaths. These poses are aimed at stretching the lower and next week I will add on poses to strength the postural muscles along the spine to help strengthen the spinal column.
